English words only
That one isn’t in the dictionary. Word Quarry accepts English words
only — of them are in play, from a public
tournament word list. Plurals and verb forms count; names and places don’t.

Let’s dig one word
Nice — that’s the whole game. Time for today’s real board!
FAQ · the rules
Dig tiles from the mound to spell English words. One shared board a day — the best banked score wins.
Bright tiles are free — nothing rests on top and at least one side (left or right) is open. Digging tiles frees the ones beneath.
Tap free tiles to build a word (each letter shows its point value). Submit ✓ lights up when they spell a word: tap it to score. Tap it while it is dim and it says why the letters don’t count. Undo puts letters back.
The pocket holds two tiles off the board: tap an empty slot, then a free tile. What lay under it comes free, and a pocketed letter can go into any later word.
Hint numbers the tiles of one common word you can pick, in order, once a run.
The points on the tiles are the points you get. Longer words are worth more per letter, and the tiles show the upgraded value as you build — so the number you see is the number that banks. Playing a word you have already played this run scores less; the day sheet’s rules say how much.
Finish banks your score to the day's leaderboard. Play again as often as you like — your best run counts.
Live or archive: a board is LIVE · RANKED while its leaderboard is open — every run counts and your best score of the day ranks. Once it closes it is ARCHIVE · YOURS ONLY: still playable, still medal-earning, but the score is kept for you alone.
Keys:every new day tops up your keys — you start with 5, each day adds 3, up to 5. One key opens a buried day on the calendar for unlimited games. Today's board is always free, and any day you have dug stays free for as long as the board is open — 90 days.
Some days run other rules: the rules on the day sheet list them before you start.
Come back the day after: the reveal shows the rarest words found and who beat the bot.
Only English words count — validated against the public-domain ENABLE word list (plus our small addendum). Plurals and verb forms are in; names, brand names, abbreviations, text speak and contractions are not — and neither is -ED on a verb that changes instead (WEARED for WORE). Look any word up on the Words page.
